I would not spend any money on that old setup. While it may still be a viable CPU there are advantages to upgrading to a newer setup, when that one dies. Now when that one craps out and you make the move to Skylake or Kabylake don't expect the moon when it comes to more performance, but there will be some. The main thing about the new tech is the bells and whistles such as DDR4, USB3.1, SATA6 (if you don't already have it), PCIe SSD support, etc. I recently moved from a Z97 i5-4670k to a Z270 i7-7700k setup and I can tell a difference and I'm loving all of the new features. I'd save my money now and build a fresh system when the time comes.
