I have a computer that I built with an r7 240, which I replaced with a GTX 960. I thought that since I wasn't using it, I would take the r7 240 and put it in my old dell dimension PC, just for the fun of it.
After installing the graphics card, checking that it has been securely placed, I tried to turn it on, and was greeted with 2 loud beeps. After some research in the manual, the two beeps indicate that no video card has been detected. I put the old GPU back in and it worked perfectly. Any ideas on what the problem may be. The card doesn't require much power, but could it be a PSU fault?

Solution
Not likely the PSU cant handle a 240 if it handles a different GPU card.

OEM motherboards (like dell, hp) often have limited support for hardware so it is likley that your motherboard bios just does not support it. Those 5150s where still in XP era, even if you got one that came with vista on it that is still 10 years old.

I *suspect* that on such an old system, Dell's BIOS simply doesn't recognize the much newer GPU.

Alternately, the R7 240 probably uses UEFI BIOS rather than Legacy BIOS, and the older Dell system doesn't support UEFI.

Some video cards have a BIOS switch on them that allows you to switch between the UEFI and Legacy. While unlikely, your R7 240 MIGHT have something like that. If so, turn off the PC, flip that switch (not sure if you'd need to remove the video card to get to it), then turn the PC back on.

It could be a couple of things. First check to see if your new GPU is rated for EUFI. If it is it won't work unless you can get a Legacy BIOS for it. Second issue is did you remove all the previous GPU drivers in Safe Mode, then swap cards and install new drivers in Safe Mode with Internet. It may be looking for the wrong video card.
