I currently have an i5 6400 Skylake, B150 Intel Biostar Motherboard, GTX 1060, 16gb G. Skill Memory, 1tb HDD, 240gb SSD, EVGA 750w PSU.

A month after I had put my computer together my motherboard had started to thermal throttle my pc. Checked my cpu heatsink (stock) and I noticed it was loose. Re-applied paste and put it back on. Temps went from 99C to 30C, only to realiZe it was still throttling.

I have decided to get a i5-7600k Kaby Lake and MSI Z270 TOMAHAWK as upgrades to my computer. 1060 is fairly new. For CPU cooler I chose the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

I was wondering if these are good choices or if anyone has suggestions otherwise. Budget is 440$.

Only upgrading CPU + Motherboard. Prefer links to Newegg if you have input.

Thank you in advance.

I do plan to overclock this as well.

Yes, the kaby lake are better for overclocking, like the i7 6700K and i7 7700K. You can read the articles from other sites like overclockers or hardocp, etc. The i7 7700k is better, even you can set the lower cpu vcore for the same ghz on the kaby lake cpu.

I can't find the review on MSI Z270 TOMAHAWK. If you need the air cooler for ocing, some of them will be better in that price range ( in USA), like Cryorig's H5/H7

Thank you very much. Im liking how the Cryorigs looking compared to the evo. As for the CPU Im probably sticking with the i5 7600k for the budget, as its the same price as the i5 6600k atm. Thank you for the confirmation on the kaby lake ocing as well.
