I need a mid size or full size case with filters on all openings except the rear. I'm set on the cpu. For the ram, any reputable brand will do; 16gb. Mobo must be Asus ddr4 with oc features.

Here's my shopping list.

The cpu with cooler costs 343 on newegg, if I can find the oem version it'll save me a few.

Solution
just because amd hasnt been able to do so in the past, doesnt mean they wont be able to do so in the future..

all tests/reviews so far, show ryzen is faster in everything else.
and as long as running 1440p or higher, even in games.
and who spends +600$ on cpu/board/ram and then plays at 720/1080p).

everyone i "know", that runs an i7, is gaming at 1440p (or 4K),
where intel isnt faster.

quote from a review:
I still feel that for a pure gaming platform right now a quad-core Core i7 7700K will offer the better performance if paired with a super fast and expensive graphics card, but only then, and only at 1080p

i've build about 40 rigs for myself/friends/family in the past 15y, and fixed about +800/y working in...

ATM, the asrock boards have better quality power/vrm parts compared to asus/msi.
as they tend to go for "more" (phases etc), rather than quality (which is more important for stable oc).

kingston has the most reliable ram for the past 20-30 month, so i prefer that over any other brand.

you won't gain much from using 4000 ram, go with the cheapest one that is 2133 or faster.

You've gone way too overkill on the first one, and a little soft on the second with the cooler.
Motherboard is overpriced, get a better value one. ;)

any ram above 2133/2400 will just increasing timings across the board, and unless doing very specific stuff, the larger bandwidth will only show in benchmarks, not in real world use.

the 850 is a pretty old drive (in ssd terms) with possible FW update issues, when something like the 950/960 (if staying with samsung)
or better is available.
i prefer ocz vector 180(as they ship a new replacement drive for free, if it dies under warranty),
or crucial MX300.

The extra RAM frequency actually helps quite a bit in CPU overclocking.
The 850 Evo is still one of the best value performance SSDs on the market, time won't change that, the 960 Evo is overpriced atm.
It also beats the MX300 and Trion 180 handily.
Samsung's warranty is also allegedly good, although i've never had to use them myself. :p

Buyin a 500 gb ssd on march 1 (next payday), that can wait a month. Just don't feel like replacing the motherboard then replacing the case or vice versa; figured it'd be better to do both at once.

I'm pretty set on the evo because of it's rep but I like what I see in that cryorig; I'll look up some reviews.

Def goin with that memory though. Gskill is really good.

Looking iinto that asus, and that ram's cheaper anyway; I seriously doubt you'll find reputable 16gb ddr4 for much cheaper anyway. Sticking with samsung for ssd, everyone says they're the best bang for your buck, but that's waiting til next month.

The cooler I listed cools much better than the 212 Evo, and is quieter as well while not interfering with the RAM.
You don't need more than 250GB for the SSD unless doing video work, as it is only for software and OS.
It just makes games load faster.
The 212 evo was the standard for a long time, but most coolers do better and run quieter like the Thermaltake Riing 12 silent, the Be Quiet! Pure rock and the Cryorig H7/H5.
