You should pick an i3, the fm2 is a dead socket and you'd have no clear upgrade path. If you got an i3 you could get hold of an i5/i7 and get a decent performance boost at a later date.

It makes no sense to buy an APU if you're buying a graphics card, if you were stuck with fm2 you should buy an Athlon (basically an APU with no GPU) and use the money saved to get a better GPU.

Basically the APU is a wonderful concept but doesn't work in practice, it was priced too highly vs a cheap CPU and GPU for only a little bit more money.

Gigabyte GA-H110M-A is quite well rated as a budget board ($55) and an i3 is roughly $110 I think in the US. That is nearly half your budget. I don't know if you need an OS and a monitor but I am guessing you might have about $100 to spend on a GPU? Based on that you're looking at an RX460 or if you can stretch to $150 a 1050ti would be a very decent card.

Well really it depends what you have left from buying your other components then.

RX460 ($110) < 1050ti ($150) < RX470 ($175)

Beyond those cards it is a toss up between the 1060 and the RX480, although I would personally lean towards AMD on that one. If you can't afford at least $100 for your GPU I would build the system without a GPU and get saving up a little bit more. Unless you only want to play CS and LOL a GPU under $100 isn't really going to cut it for gaming.

You state a budget of $400, the point I am making is that to play 2017 AAA titles at anything close to decent FPS you'd need to spend a little more.

That is $34 over your stated budget, there a couple of areas where you could shave some money. If you've already got a case and PSU then that would save you $70 in which case you should buy the 1050ti GPU and probably be in budget.

It will take up to an i7-7700k so yes it is as future proof as a motherboard will ever be. The next series of CPU after Kaby Lake are almost certain to move to a new socket, motherboards rarely support more than two generation of CPU. You cannot overclock with this motherboard but a Z series motherboard would add quite a lot to the price for a decent board, it will take any GPU you care to mention.

Quite honestly it is unlikely to make a massive difference, I have built systems with MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS and ASRock. People tend to have their favourite brand i.e. I used to build all my personal PC's with an ASUS motherboard but essentially an MSI board with a 110 chipset on isn't massively different from a Gigabyte.

If you've seen the MSI cheaper than the Gigabyte I would go with it.
