Hi. Next week I am buying the "ASUS ROG GTX1080 Strix Gaming OC 08G" graphics card for my home-build rig and am asking the community some questions to determine if I need to upgrade any other components on my rig before installing it.

Main Specs:
Windows 7 pro x64
Antec 600w PSU
Intel Core i7-4790k
Noctua NH-L12 Air CPU Cooler
ASUS VG278 27" 120hz 3D Monitor with Nvidia 3D Vision 2
32Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 DDR3 RAM
4Gb Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming (will be upgraded in a week)
AVERMedia Volar Green USB2.0 TV Tuner.
Sound Blaster Zx PCIe Sound Card
Logitech Z906 THX 5.1 Speakers
over 15Tb of HDD Space 4x Internal + 2x external
Afterglow Xbox360 Controller
Targus Bluetooth 4 dongle
Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse
Logitech K260 Wireless Keyboard
Fractal Design Define XL-R2 Full-Tower Case
Asus PCE_AC68U paired with ASUS RT_AC68U Router on 5Ghz network.

1: Is this card going to run well on Windows 7 pro x64, or is it going to get gimped like 6th gen intel CPU's will?

2: I have a 600w PSU. Will this be enough to run this card, with all my other peripherals?

3: Will there be bottle necking issues with either my 4th Gen "i7 4790k" or my 32Gb of "Corsair Vengeance Pro" DDR3 RAM?

4a: The new card has two HDMi 2.0 ports. If I connect a HDMi cable to my monitor can I get 120Hz and 3D or is the port on my monitor still going to restrict the monitor to 2D and 60Hz like I get on HDMI on my current GPU's port (HDMi 1.4)? Or:

4b:will I still need the DVI-D DL cable that came with the monitor? (No other DVI-D DL works for 3D), as it would be handy to use my 5m HDMi cable for my monitor (ASUS VG278 Purchased in 2012/13) as my rig has been converted into a 3D Surround sound Home Theater / Gaming system, and the DVI-D DL Cable that came with the monitor is only 1.5m

1. The main problem is if you intend to stick with windows 7 as your working os is that if you fit the 1080 GTX card.
You will not be able to play any new games that have DX 12 textures or graphical enhancement.
You will need to install windows 10 x64 version to be able to play DX game titles.

2. 600w should be enough to power the system with the 1080 Gtx card fitted to the rest of your system.

3. No.

4. You can use a Hdmi cable, or the Dual link Dvi cable to get screen resolutions of 1080p all the way up to 4k.
You can also use the HDMI cable also, using the Nvidia card via the Hdmi to play back 3D sound of up to 5.1 or 7.2 playback with no problems at all.

Just configure the speaker setup for the Nvidia graphics card by right clicking on it then sound configuration.
to get 5.1 or 7.1 audio output via the HDMI cable.

1. It will run just fine

2. I think your PSU will run just fine. I did get this error on PCPP though I wouldn't trust it too much. -- The Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.)

3. Nope

Can't answer the last two though, sorry

What I'm also quite unsure of is the HDMi port in my monitor. Would that be compatible with the HDMi2.0 on the new card or will I be limited to 60Hz and not be able to run 3D. (is the monitor port HDMi1.4 compatible only?) for a monitor, I only have the ASUS VG278 (120hz max, built in IR Emmitter), and not the VG278H or VG278HE models, so I'm not sure if that monitor can even support HDMi2.0.

I can't use HDMi Audio because the Z906 receiver only supports 3x Stereo Analogue (which I am using for 5.1) or 2 Optical ports. Which only give 5.1 on dts or dolby digital movies.

Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio MPC PCM, LPCM and AAC Movies, and ALL my games are 2.0 (no LFE) on optical so I go with Analogue. There are no HDMi ports on the Z906 receiver.

My PC can only use 1 of the optical poert as the other optical port on my Sound Blaster ZX is an optical-in for recording.

I found all this out after buying an Optical cable and as I play games and have video's with HD Audio, optical is not the go for me. 2.0 just isn't right on a 5.1 system.

Could this be why I got crashes and BSOD's until I down clocked the RAM from 2400Mhz to 1866Mhz?
