I have tried everything it seems to fix this problem. I have changed the router to a nighthawk modem router called the service provider and upgraded to the 150 mbps download and 20 upload. My speed tests look good about 170 and 25 from speedtest.net and 170 from fast.com but it doesnt seem any more reliable than my old internet from wow like 5 years ago. Any suggestions? it seems to be slowest when trying to use apps like netflix on my phone or certain websites from my school on the desktop and laptop. I also am using the 5ghz band and have full signal and have it set to channel 100.

1. Don't use channel 100. It's a DFS frequency - newer weather radars at airports are extremely sensitive to DFS frequencies. WiFi devices which use DFS frequencies are supposed to automatically change to a different channel if they detect weather radar being used. Use channels 36-48 or 149-165 instead. (Channels 49-148 are DFS.)

2. If you have a Nighthawk router, check the traffic page to see if a device on your network is sucking up all your bandwidth. Maybe someone has a filesharing app running.

3. Try this site instead. It tests your speed to all the major backbone providers. Your speed may be fast to some backbones, slow to others.

4. That's really odd that you're getting good speeds from fast.com but not Netflix. fast.com is Netflix. They deliberately host it on the same servers that stream their video.

5. Are the speeds better if you plug your computer directly into your modem with an Ethernet cable?

I did one and two it doesnt appear to have anything hogging band width file sharing or otherwise. I have it set on channel 44 now too.

3. I ended up getting low readings on most of them.

5. I dont have any ethernet cables to test it right now.

Thanks for the speedy response. I would have responded sooner but I needed to finish a pretty hefty assignment.

Any advice on what I can do to fix this.
