MSI Z270 Gaming M7 4 PIN?

So I had an odd day today building a new rig. I got the MSI Z270 Gaming M7 Motherboard with an i7 6700k and a Corsair 750M power supply. One thing I noticed was the CPU power on the motherboard requires and extra 4 PIN to which my PSU does not have. Doing some research everyone said it will not power on but it did for me and everything seems to work just fine. Is the extra 4 PIN for 7th Gen CPU's? That would be my wild guess.

Are you talking about the 8pin EPS cable? The PC will function just fine with only a 4pin cable connected, the extra 4 pins provide extra power, you won't really need them unless you are pushing some high overclocks.

The question is little bit different than you thought.
The post specifically mentions MSI Z270 M7, and for that board there are two CPU power ports. It's 8+4 rather than normal 8pin.
I have this board with 7700k but haven't tried to boot without the 4pin, so I can't really answer it. And the manual only has this, which is quite useless:
