Hi all,

would appreciate some advice.

Yesterday my computer suddenly shut down when running idle; upon starting the computer back up the BIOS stated a CPU Over Voltage Error had occurred.

I immediately went into the BIOS and noticed the CPU VCore was fluctuating between 1.5v (White -> 1.7v (Red). This lasted for around 1 minute and then settled back at 1.31v stable.

I have since tried the computer again today for 5 minutes before going to work and it seemed fine.

I'm worried either the PSU or Motherboard are failing and may cause damage to my CPU or other components.

I don't have any spare parts to test swap the power supply or motherboard. Considering this has only happened once would I be jumping the gun replacing my main board and PSU straight away? or is it safe to continue using the computer while keeping an eye on voltage levels etc..

Asus X99-S (Pretty sure first revision.)
Intel 5930k @ 4.0GHz
16GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 2666Mhz
Corsair HX850i PSU
GTX 1080

I did have a power cut 4 days ago while the PC was on; but I've used it frequently and for long periods of time since then without any observable issues.

I don't have any custom OC applications installed, and this wouldn't explain the fluctuating voltage (which then settled down on its own) being observed from within the BIOS before I'd even booted into the OS.
