Is this upgrade worth the 300-400$?

I have core i7 4790k not overclocked ( it's fast enough like that ), z97 extreme 4 from Asrock and 16gb of ram ddr 1600 Corsair LP cl9.
So the question is if it's reasonable to sell those 3 parts and buy z270 extreme 4 with 7700k and ddr4 3200mhz 16gb ?
I would cost me around 300 to 400$.

I honestly don't think so, unless you don't care about spending money. You can still run literally every game, and probably at ultra settings depending on your GPU.

From a cost / benefit perspective, no.... that would be true also if you had a 6 year old 2600k... Sandy Bridge => Kaby Lake ... yawwwwwn

No, it is not worth it in my opinion. There wasn't a major increase in performance from Haswell all the way to Kaby Lake. I would spend that money on a new monitor or graphics card if you need it.

Worth is something personal that only YOU can determine.

If your current setup is doing the job, is there really any reason to change?

OTOH, if you are an enthusiast and like to have the best as well as having the budget, why not?
My main problem with such a change would be what to do with the old parts.
If you can give your old parts usefully, then perhaps the change would be good.

Just made some calculations and figured out that a 300$ will be the cost to upgrade to 7700k and z270 with 16gb of ddr4 memory. As for the gpu i have gtx 780 super jetstream wich isn't that good anymore
