Worse, VS is below the CXM ... again both suitable for an office box; the CXM is better but than the VS or old CX but that's not saying much .... and certainly certainly "not great" ... every review you look at will include the words good or great but the full description of "great for it's price" should tell you all you need to know....a McDonald's hamburger is "great for its price". A disposable camera is "great for its price"

In Tomshardware review, and THG is rarely critical f anything, of the CX650M has the following cons...
The CXM is better than the CX, but frankly that's not saying much. Often touted as a "good PSU for the price", it's the last 3 words that should give pause. I'd put in a office PC or something for grandma to keep up with the kids on facebook, but not in a heavy gaming or workstation PC.

i just need a good power supply for video editing and gaming for cheap (40)

Why the haste?
Did you have one that failed?

Buy in haste, repent at leisure.

You are not going to buy anything for less that does not have the potential to fail and damage your other parts.
The CX line has not been all that reliable in the past, but a failure was not dangerous and corsair rma process is good.
The new units(grey ones) are supposed to be better.

What is the graphics card you need to power?
That will determine the power you need.

Not very good (Toms PSU tier list puts it in tier 4 and says should not be used in any gaming rig of any kind). As the guy said above, you need a bigger budget, you won't get good value on a decent psu in the uk

This is incorrect. The 430w version is the old group regulated CX. The 450, 550 and 650w CXM are newer units with full DC to DC regulation. CWT took the now discontinued RM line and slightly detuned it to created the new CXM models. Those 3 CXM units ( 450w, 550w and 650w ) are quite good.

I unselected the best answer as it was incorrect.

Cheap Sleeve-bearing fan

3.3V rail performance in Advanced Transient Response tests is deficient
Inrush current with 115V input is too high
Power Ok signal's hold-up time is below spec
Distance between peripheral connectors is too small

@ JackNaylorPE - you have to take the hypercritical aspects of these reviews in context though.

They're mainly niggles though in all fairness .
Apart from that one
'3.3V rail performance in Advanced Transient Response tests is deficient'

Because in all fairness if you read the review of the g2 you'll see those rails drop to a very closely comparative amount yet no mention is made of it in the closing comments.

The cx450m 'should' be priced at £42-45 in all reality , the 550m under £55.
Any more than that & there are honestly better choices out there.
They seem way overpriced in my eyes at the minute & not that good a buy.

@RockyBennett - a cx430 for £48 ?? No that's not a good buy at all, while I don't treat them with the same condemnation as a lot of members they should be much much cheaper to even come into consideration.

You cherry picked that review didn't you?

"The CX650M features killer performance per dollar thanks to its affordable price and good overall performance. It is based on a solid CWT platform that employs a synchronous design on the secondary side, along with a couple of DC-DC converters. We typically don't see any of that in 80 PLUS Bronze power supplies."

"Corsair was clearly going after top performance as well though, and the final outcome is definitely worth noticing. Moreover, the platform looks to be reliable, otherwise Corsair wouldn't support it with a five-year warranty."

"The CX650M's good performance and high tolerance to increased operating temperatures are attributes you don't often find in this price range. Besides the high-end categories, Corsair also wants to make its presence known in the mainstream and mid-range markets. And with products like the CX650M, this looks like an attainable goal.

Load regulation and ripple suppression on the CX650M are impressive, while its efficiency levels put other Bronze-rated units to shame. Although Corsair uses a powerful fan, its loose profile facilitates quiet-enough operation. Compact dimensions are a bonus, while transient response is satisfactory on all rails except 3.3V. Lastly, in the always-important protections suite, Corsair doesn't cut any corners. The CX650M is fully safe, not only for its own sake but also for the components behind it.

Taking all of that into account, if you don't want to invest a lot of money into your next PSU and you believe that 650W of max power is enough to cover your needs, the CX650M should be on top of your buying list. It offers very good performance and an affordable price, so it is highly recommended for users that aren't after the top efficiency levels, but still need a good and reliable PSU that doesn't cost a ton."

There's the relevant part you left out. Seriously did you read the actual review or just the bullet points? The CXM is fine for anyone on a budget. Better than the old group regulated Seasonic S12 II platform.

Terrible compared to the CXM. Much, much anecdotal evidence pointing to the CX dying early under load. The CXM is better in every way.
