I'm trying to build the following rig:

Asus Maximus VIII Gene - MoBo
Intel i7-7700 4.2 - CPU
TridentZ DDR4 3400 32Gb (8x4Gb) - RAM
ASUS STRIX 1070 8G OC - Graphic
Seasonic Snow Silent 750W - PSU

- The 1st time I tried to make it run, PC got stuck at boot showing a Qcode 04 (pch initialization before microcode loading).

- After reading some forums around, I decided to RMA both CPU and MoBo.

- Today I replaced everything and keep getting the same error.

- My theory is that there is a conflict between the Motherboard and the CPU, so I tried to use the USB Flashback option to update BIOS without booting. There is also a problem here because it doesn't seem to work properly (blinks 6 times then light stucks ON, meaning flash was unsuccesful). The Flashback port indicated in the MoBo manual DIFFERS from the one indicated on the small plate that covers the mobo ports. Tried to flashback on both ports with same result.

- Tried to boot without the graphic card plugged.

- Tried to boot with a single RAM bar installed.

- Tried to flashback without RAM.

- Cleared CMOS after each try.

I cannot find a solution anywhere, so I'm trying to get some light here!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Solution
Solved.

After retrying each usb port for Flashback I realized I forgot to test one, that was the right one.

- Downloaded the BIOS update (in my case 3007, supporting i7 4.2 CPU) here: https://www.asus.com/es/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-GENE/HelpDesk_CPU/

- Renamed the file to M8G.CAP

- Copied it in an USB pendrive, then Flashbacked the motherboard.

I let the answer here in case someone is having the same issue.

Everythings runs ok now!

OH THANK GOD. I've been looking for an answer that is NOT "RMA it"

I'll try this when I get home.

THANK YOU!
