New Build won't stay active long enough to install an OS

Ok got my new build to boot into bios. However no matter if i try installing an OS or just running thru the bios settings, the end result is the same;

monitor looses signal
drive activity light goes black
USB keyboard stops responding
Basically the only things left running are the fans and the LED accents built into the case (HDD sounds like its still spinning but at an idle speed)

After 2 weeks Ive ruled out the PSU, RAM slots, and bios version (bios fully updated), as well as anything overheating according to the Hardware manager.
ive also tried it without anything plugged into the mobo to see if it would stay on in bios alone: it did the same 30 second crash as it did with the optical drive, HDD, and any other devices tested one at a time.

(I dont know if it would make a difference but ive been running it only with the power supply, monitor and a keyboard connected. would plugging into the LAN port for internet be causing this or some other external?)

My question is: I have a refurbished mobo from windows vista/7 crossover era. Is there some bios setting that may need to be tweaked to keep it from malfunctioning? It does have the ASUS "smart gate" thing installed on the bios, but i have no idea what thats about...

Heres my current setup

EVGA 500W PSU
ASUS P5G41C-M LX motherboard
intel core 2 quad Q9550 processor
4gb crucial ddr3 Ram
generic USB keyboard and 2 different monitors (3 different vga cables for testing purposes)
Blackbone PC case with 2 120mm fans
generic HP fan powered cpu cooler.

Any help or suggestions/ troubleshooting extras would really help. this thing is driving me crazy!
thanks guys!

Solution
Sounds like a chipset heat issue possibly. May need to clean the chipset heatsink and chipset thermal paste off and add new paste. Looking over your specs I would suggest a CPU, mobo, and RAM upgrade. You could get a super cheap upgrade that blows that super old stuff away.
