Good mobo cpu ram combo

Right now I'm running an amd fx6300 3.5ghz, 8gb ram. I'm looking for a nice upgrade in cpu, potentially i7 4690? It'll only be used for gaming I have an evga gtx 970 I fear its not getting its full potential. is an i7 overkill when gaming is the most intensive thing that will be done on it? BF1, h1z1, GTA V, Diablo 3 are really all I play. My rig struggles in higher settings in all of them except Diablo. Also what's a good mobo to go along? And looking to upgrade to 16gb of ram. I currently have a thermaltake 600w psu. Not looking to overclock or anything I just like turning on and playing not worrying about overheat or anything. I'd like to stay under 500 bucks. Thanks in advance for any help!
