Hello experts,!

So following the advice from my previous post I decided to wait for the Ryzen to fully upgrade my PC. If ever i will not be able to wait for it, ill just grab a G4560 to extend my budget on the GPU. I am totally confused the equivalents of Nvidia and AMD. In my area, it seems like RX470 is competing with GTX1060(specially on the price) whereas on other sites it says 1060=480.I have referenced the prices below and please advise which is the best bang for the buck. I am willing to spend the extra $20 to the 480 if it is really really worth it. But if 480=1060 then thats another choice.

vga radeon: Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC 4gb
PHP 10990.00 - USD 220

vga radeon: Sapphire RX 470 Nitro+ OC 4gb
PHP 9980.00 - USD 200
vga radeon: XFX RX 470 RS 4gb
PHP 9710.00 - USD 194

vga radeon: Sapphire RX 460 Nitro OC 4gb
PHP 6790.00 - USD 136
vga radeon: Gigabyte RX 460 Windforce OC 4gb
PHP 6580.00 - USD 132

vga nvidia: Palit GTX 1060 Dual Fan 3gb
PHP 9750.00 - USD 195
vga nvidia: Palit GTX 1060 StormX 3gb
PHP 9350.00 - USD 187

vga nvidia: Palit GTX 1050 Ti Dual OC 4gb
PHP 7680.00 - USD 154
vga nvidia: Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti OC 4gb
PHP 7890.00 - USD 158
vga nvidia: Asus GTX 1050 Ti Dual OC 4gb
PHP 7990.0076 - USD 160
vga nvidia: Zotac GTX 1050 Ti Dual Fan OC 4gb
PHP 7630.00 — USD 153

I will be using the PC mostly in dota2, running VMs and usual tasks, but I am wanting to play the latest games today to high/very high settings.

Will I notice the difference even if I dont have a 1080 monitor?

Solution
VRAM ain't everything.

the 1060 has just more juice (and the clock is almost twice as high)

with the 470 the brand/cooler and factory OC does play a role
with the 1060 almost doesn't

480 = 1060 6gb > 1060 3gb > 470 > > > 1050 ti > 460

that palit gtx 1060 for 187 is the best choice

try to get at least an i3 7100

The Rx480 should max everything
The 1060 should as well
The Rxx470 is a slightly bit weaker, not much but a bit

But if you can get a dual fan 1060 for 195, spending 30 more on a Rx480 is not worth it imo.

1050Ti/Rx460 are significantly weaker.

if u r buying a new gpu now and plan to upgrade ur monitor to a 1080p in the near future, future proof it n buy the rx 480 nitro+. otherwise a 1060 3gb is enough.
remember than rx 480(also has vulkan advantage for dota 2, cheers mate!) has better dx12 implementation than gtx 1060.

I believe the vga nvidia: Palit GTX 1060 Dual Fan 3gb
PHP 9750.00 - USD 195 has dual fan so this is the best option among the rest? Does Palit has good reputation with cards? In our language, Palit = replace so there is a saying youll have to replace it in no time.

the Palit GTX 1060 - US 187 only has 1 fan, will i encounter any issue with temp in case i play title games at higher settings?

So the best card on the list is Palit GTX 1060 Dual Fan? Will this run at a nice temp range when maxed out? Is it future proof as I have no plans on upgrading it again for 3-5 years. I've read some comments also that AMD outperforms Nvidia overtime but not sure why.

for up to 5 years? thats kinda tough for the 1060. maybe high in 720p but not ultra settings. and definitely no way in 1080p, max u can go is medium. right now u can play all the games in ultra @ 720p with the 1060.
gpu power wise 1060=480, but 480 has 4gb ram n amd has better dx12 n vulkan tech, so u decide.
that extra gig of vram maybe really prove useful in the 5 years to come ;)

If i base on the price to compare the GTX 1060 3gb and RX 470 4gb, the 470 wins as it has more VRAM and more future proof compared to the 1060 that only has 3gb? does the brand affect the cooling/noise and performance?

so buying the single fan Palit GTX 1060 StormX 3gb - USD 187 is also a good pick compared to Palit GTX 1060 Dual Fan 3gb - USD 195 as both will throw same performance and wont affect the temps?

just like @Isokolon said, 1060 got more juice than 470. 480=1060. but that extra gig maybe be a better future proof for textures and effects in the game. if u r hard on cash, compromise with medium settings in future games n buy the 1060 dual fan card for future games with full loads ;)
i would suggest this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814125906

This card cost USD250 from where I live. Is the price justifiable?

Great so i guess i have finally decided to get the palit gtx 1060 3gb. Is it okay to pair it with an a6 5400k for the mean time? I know it will bottleneck the gpu but how much? Totally out of topic sorry

dont spoil ur gpu, the minimum is a fx 4350($70) . i would recommend a fx 6350k
