My friend (called Dan) has a PS4 and he says it's better than my computer and he keeps bragging about it.

Is it really better than my computer or is my computer better than his PS4?

My computer specs:

CPU: Intel I7-6700K 4.01 GHz

GPU: GeForce GTX 1070

16 GB RAM

8GB Dedicated Video RAM

Thanks!

PS4 was outdated by PC when it was originally launched, its GPU was about 4 years old (or based on a 4 year old design) as I had that GPU years before I got a PS4. I am not 100% sure about PS4 Pro but it can't run 4k without upscaling image and I pretty sure your GPU can do that.

Any mass made console isn't going to have top end GPU in them as its to expensive, even if you can get a bulk discount. Consoles are good at what they designed to do, as then games are made to match specs, but no way they can compete with a PC

I have both so not biased here :)

Plus you can do so much more with a computer and suitable software, a games console can only run games and maybe a few other things depending on the model.

I suppose it depends how you define the word "better" in that context, but I know which is the better all-rounder, no contest there.

The revealed PS4 Pro specs are as follows:

Main processor: Custom-chip single Processor
CPU: x86-64 AMD "Jaguar," 8 cores
GPU: 4.2 TFLOPS, AMD Radeon based graphics engine
Memory: GDDR5 8GB
Storage size: 1TB
External dimensions: Approx. 295×55×327 mm (width × height × length) (excludes largest projection)
Mass: Approx. 3.3 kg
BD/DVD Drive: BD × 6 CAV, DVD × 8 CAV
Input/Output: Super-Speed USB (USB 3.1 Gen.1) port × 3, AUX port × 1
Networking: Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T)×1, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth® 4.0 (LE)
Power: AC 100V, 50/60Hz
Power consumption: Max. 310W
Operating temp: 5ºC – 35ºC
AV Output: HDMI out port (supports 4K/HDR) DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) port

Intel CPU are still better than current AMD offerings in terms of performance
AMD GPU is on par with RX 480
has half the ram without even counting the 1070's ram (you have 16 + 8)

PC can beat it in cooling, the PS4 & Pro can sound like jet engines while running, mine is like that and I have seen PS4 pro videos where PS4 is louder than the music for the games.

Pro offers no upgrade path, PC can be upgraded to keep GPU up to date. PC is better even if GPU is closer than it usually is for a console.

I wouldn't call it better but its not bad for its price.

There is nothing a playstation or xbone can do that your PC cant do a lot better. When it comes to gaming, you can play with higher graphic quality and resolutions, while STILL getting more fps compared the playstation, even though it runs on lower settings. Even if theyend up releasing the next gen playsations later this year, chances are your PC currently will still have better performance.
