I own an i7 6700k . Installed it on a Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon MSI motherboard. It is cooled by a Deepcool Maelstrom 240t (240mm watercooler). Power supply : Super Flower 650W LEADEX Silver (80+ silver) Full modular etc .
After seeing some videos , i understood (finally , u might have seen me ask questions on how to oc) how to overclock . But i still dont know :
1. What maximum voltage i should stay at . For example , ive tested for 10 mins , and i can run the cpu at 5ghz but at 4.5v , which i know and heard.. is pretty bad for the cpu . Most ive heard said that i should stay at 3.5v . Is it ok there ? Can i go a little bit further , like 4v , or is it very bad for the cpu ? Like , i wanna know what my limit should be .
2. What maximum temps i should want to have . The cooler is pretty noisy when underload (heavy cpu intensive games or cpu intensive stuff ; other than that its silent) . Plus , i want to start a youtube channel sooner or later , and a noisy pc wouldnt be the thing i want . So i want to cut down on temperatures for a more silent PC . What are the max temps that wouldnt start to kill my cpu ? 80c ? or lower than that ?
Ty in anticipation
+ Quick question : should I even bother OCing my ram ? 2 sticks of 8gb ram ddr4 2133mhz . I heard its pretty unstable . Should i do it too or forget about it ?

Solution
You shouldn't go over 1.4V. Anything over 1.5V is considered high, I'm surprised you haven't ruined your CPU by now.
Max temps should stay around the 80C range when you're stress testing it to confirm that it's a solid overclock.

So ~1.36 , 1.37 is ok ? i can run it at 4.7ghz with lower than 70c temps at around that voltage . so is that voltage ok ?

ok then . so ill ask one more time just to be 100% sure . what if i push it to 1.4v ? Is it very bad ? i mean , with decent temps lower than 75c at max . But i wont probably , just asking

I would only push it to 1.4 if you can hit it stable at 4.8GHz. If you can't hit a higher clock by bumping up the voltage more, I wouldn't. Usually the process for overclocking is: Bump multiplier->stress test until failure->bump voltage->stress test until no failure->repeat until some limit is reached (in this case, voltage), but once you reach limits you push back your voltage as low as it can go for the clock that you want to increase longevity on the chip. I tried pushing to 1.45 on my chip to hit 4.6, I couldn't so I went back down to 1.35 @ 4.5GHz.

Well .. it seems i have a pretty good chip considering it does not have any problem at 4.7ghz with 3.5v .
What apps u recommend for stress testing ? i want to test with more

Alright . I got the final result : 4.8ghz at 1.384 v . Should i go lower ? Should i go higher?
