So I recently bought a really old comp mainly for the case, but found it is basically complete minus the hd. I decided to put my old sata hd in from an old p4 with 7 64 bit installed as I have been thinking of having a really old rig just for old school gaming, etc. It is an Asus M2N-e mobo with an AMD 64 3800+ CPU and a pny gt720 1gb video card. It fires up now after a minor memory issue and all case fans work, etc. it gets to the mobo screen and then starts to load windows, but then states windows unable to start and the 2 options run repair or start windows normally. I have run repair numerous times without success yesterday, and even tried system restore which failed as well. This am I ran repair again and it stated it was successful but on restart it fails again and flashes a quick blue screen super fast before getting to repair/start windows normally screen. I have heard about trying to switch from sata to IDE in set up due to this being an Asus board but not sure if that will help. This hd was working well prior in other system but did notice some quirks after trying to download an nvidia driver and that never did work out right. Maybe unrelated, not sure. I guess I could put the 7 DVD in and run a repair install but have heard this does not always work. Could sure use some advice/help on this. Thanks
