Not the first computer I've built, but the first where I've run into this issue. Hitting power has the motherboard cycle through some q-codes before stopping on 62, per the manual it's 'installation of PCH runtime services,' but I'm not sure what that means.

Computer fails to boot, nothing shows up on screen :( upsetting as I was very much looking forward to running this machine!

I've tried the below -
- Removing GPU and plugging monitor into the onboard HDMI, no dice
- Trying one stick of RAM at a time in each slot, switching slots for both sticks of RAM, no dice
- Flashed the CMOS with and without the GPU, no dice.

Thinking it could be a faulty motherboard but don't even understand what q-code 62 is trying to tell me... any help / advice / guidance would be appreciated! Let me know if any other details I can provde.

Here's the parts list -

  • Case: NZXT Manta
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Impact (M-ITX)
    Processor: Intel i7-7700k
    CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i
    HDD: Samsung SSD 1TB
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED 32GB (2x16GB) - DDR4 - 3200MHz
GPU: ASUS ROG nVidia GTX 1080 STRIX
    PSU: Corsair AX860

Thanks so much.. that was it. I wasn't aware that the specific motherboard wasn't compatible with the Kaby Lake CPUs untill the most recent (3101) ASUS BIOS release.

The more you know!

Appreciate the quick response.

Hi,
Download the latest BIOS version from https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO-ALPHA/HelpDesk_Download/
Unzip and rename the MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO-ALPHA-ASUS-3201.CAP to M8HA.CAP
Save the renamed file to a FAT32 formatted USB drive.
Connect the drive to the designated back port

Don't start the board, just make sure that the power supply is connected to the motherboard and on.
Press the Flashback button for 3 seconds.
Wait until the process ended.
