Hello.
I am in dire need of help. About a 2-3 weeks ago my computer started to freeze occasionaly while playing games, basically when i used pc heavily. Since then it got worse and i tried to resolve it, sadly unsuccessfuly. I updated all my drivers, defragmented harddisk, scanned pc for virus, malwares. I was constantly checking temperatures in MSI afterburner and they are fine. GPU has about 43 degree Celsius and CPU roughly 60-65.
I noticed my pc froze everytime my pagefile was about 8128mb so i increased pagefile to 12k (2 times my ram) but it only delayed freezes they happen less frequently. One thing i was not able to resolve is, that my motherboard chipset is outdated, but i somehow cannot update it i get unknown error everytime. Maybe it's cuz drivers are not supported for Win 10.
So my spec is:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 4cores overclocked to 3GHZ
Motherboard: Rampage Formula with Intel X48 chipset, Southbridge Intel 82801IR(ICH9R)
RAM: 6GB DDR2
Graphic: AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB
I use Win 10 x64 version
If u need me to add any info just let me know.
Before someone suggests that the pc is just already old and cant keep up mind you i get freezes in games i ran smoothly for years before. If u find any spelling errors i apologize english isn't my native language.
Also. My fps doesnt drop when i get freeze. Just my GPU and CPU goes to almsot zero usage while game in frozen and then go back up when it unfreeze again without any futher lags. Sometimes freezes are just 10-15 seconds short, othertimes can last minute-two

Solution
One more you may consider that is to update the BIOS, because the MB needs the newer BIOS for the new hardware, your r9 380. Usually we don't commend to update the BIOS, but if you had problem, try it.

keep in mind the Q6600 was the good cpu for a while, but now we are in 2017, it may not catch up for the new games anymore, it definitely will bottleneck the r9 380. You can set the game setting to low, and see you still have the frozen problem or not.

I found one review recently, Does the Q6600 still have games in 2007? http://www.techspot.com/article/1313-intel-q6600-ten-years-later/ So it maybe the time for upgrading the PC.

Hi thanks for responses. My PSU is Enermax NAXN ENP500AGT 500W
I ran HD tune to check my hdd 0 errors everything OK. I was watching event viewer when freezes occured but nothing showed up. I also ran stress test for my cpu and gpu both went fine without errors. I am going to check rams and if these will be ok then i guess problem is in motherboard

1) Because you use 6GB, that should be either 2GB + 4GB or 3X 2GB, try use single 4GB or the 2 X2GB kit only, sometime when you mix the RAM, that will cause the problem.
2) Check the BIOS to see it is the newer one, 1001, or not. If it is not, and update it. Also update the chipset driver too. * I did this in other old lga775 PC, it works fine even the driver is for newer chipset.
3) May reset the cpu speed back to 2.4ghz.

1) It works like this for a quite sometime now i didnt change my rams recently
2) I have really old bios version from 2008 but if i really dont need to i dont want to mess with it it seems really tricky. My chipset drivers doesnt support win 10 i get unknown error everytime i try to install them.
3) I tried resetting cpu didnt help

But the problem is i am getting lags in games i ran for years before smoothly. I am scared shitless updating bios.. i ran with this rig and settings for 2 years straight without any sign of problems. I troubleshoot my falls in ranbow six siege where i get freeze every game but i still have 100fps on high settings without any drops. I tried low graphic, windowed anything but didnt help. I also get freezes in like csgo where i have easily 230fps so i dont think this is the case
