Need help with a build I'm doing for my little brother. 400$ budget

Solution
yes, almost all, surely all gpus use pci express x16 connector to be used into a pci express x16 slot

that gpu, a bit expensive for your budget i think

i personally want a msi gtx1050, 2 gbs ddr5, for my am1 pc, the gtx i mentioned before, only second hand has sense now, thanks to the performance and cost, the 1050 alone is almost double the gtx750ti on most games

what i mentined abou the gpu in the intel and in the amd cpus, a better explanation and comparison, to put you in perspective of what to expect if you go with no gpu

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwiMe4VXPE0

that is the gpu on a 400 dollars intel cpu, the one you are getting is perhaps half or less

that gt 730 is not a good card, it is very slow in fact and you can't use the 4 gbs in it, the card is weak to use all that vram

perhaps a r7 250, same price or cheaper and stronger

the ram, 2x4gbs, to use it in dualchanel on that cpu, to help it run better

i went over your budget but the changes makes it a gaming pc

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KvNYwV

the gpu is double fast as the 730 you listed, that is a bad gpu

if you can change that 750 for a 1050 or 1050 ti, it will be a perfect machine for at least 2 years

I would dump the GT 730 as it's a old outdated card and the iGPU (HD 630) from the i3 7100 would be much better until a better GPU can be purchased.

Saving up for something such as the GTX 1050 ti 4gb would be good to pair with this build when you have extra funds.

No, you don't need the motherboard you listed. Here's a modification of your build w/ Windows 10 included. Given the budget limitations, this is the best I would recommend; using onboard graphics until a graphics card can be purchased (maybe the folks can help?)

1 dollar over and a lot better performance, the processor is like a i3 2 cores 4 threads, much better video card you can actually use it for gaming, 500GB hard drive.

Thank you, this seems to be a great solution for the time being. (folks are struggling financially atm) Would on-board graphics be able to handle games such as world of warcraft?

I'd like to get a good motherboard so he can upgrade whatever parts he wants without too much trouble. Will the mobo you suggested hold up over time?

I actually grabbed the older gen motherboard on the previous build. This one in the build will be perfectly fine and will allow your brother to upgrade to 16gb when needed.

the more expensive mainboard usually adds certain features but usually, the cheaper and the most expensive will only have one real big difference, support for overcloking

your cpu, well, the one listed, can't be overcloked, with that psu, future cpus will need another psu

a mainboard must support cpus, ram and have a couple usb ports and a ethernet port, other features, well, some people never use them

that is why you see people happy with a mini itx mainboard that only allows you to put 2 hard disks, one gpu, 2 ram sticks and the cpu, thats it

we didn't asked you if you are going to use ethernet, wired connection to internet on that pc or if you need wifi in it

as always is preferable wired connection, cheaper, already onboard and more reliable but with distances, well, wifi sometimes will give you the finger or save the day

about saving money, the gpu is what will make this pc a gaming pc, without it, it is just a custom office pc with some special parts

if money is the biggest concern, you could try find a used gt740 or gtx750, any card is 100 times better than a integrated gpu on a intel cpu, intel gpus are weak, recently got stronger but still intel weak gpus, integrated gpus, decent ones comes from amd in their fm2 cpus, like a a8 or a a10 apu, we don't mention amd just because their current line surely will die next month if not this month with the release of the new ryzen line of cpus

the last list, with the seagate, that is a too small hard disk at 250 gbs, also, a bad quality one, seagate in the last years has gained bad reputation with quick dying hard disks, i got one, oem, it died at 7 months, oem gave me 6 moths of warranty, imagine my opinion about it

toshiba, hitachi or western digital will give you more i'm sure

my ps3 is using a toshiba hard disk, 320 gbs, laptop one, almost all day some days, all days since 2014, rock solid hard disk

a option that should be mentioned but will also die when ryzen comes is am1 platform, a cheap 50 dollars athlon 5370, a cheap mainboard at 35 dollars and 16gbs of ddr 3 will cost you around 100 dollars, add the gpu to it and yu have there a new and ultracheap pc, what i have at the moment, not the most perfect machine but surely cheap and fast enough for some games and most tasks

Thank you for the detailed solution. Would https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128980&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= be able to fit a graphics card?

the part where you put the gpu, the pci express x16 slot, you can see it on the mainboard picture, it is located under the cpu socket, near the ports on the back of the mainboard under the sound card jack connectors for the speakers and microphone

13-128-980-Z01.jpg

this one you listed, has space for one gpu, also has two more pci expres slots, the smaller ones, for sound cards or network cards, usually not needed by most users

when you are selecting a mainboard what you want is that it fits the budget, the size fits the case and the quality is decent

msi, gigabyte and asus are the good brands this days, other brands, i will not mention them, as most of them are bad or regular and will die soon or will give you all sorts of problems or compatibility issues with gpus, cpus and ram modules

i think you are going to build the pc by yourself and don't have any real experience doing it right?

youtube is full of build logs and how to make your own pc videos

you can help decide on more parts by watching those videos, jayz2cents, bitwit, pauls hardware and linustechtips will give you some ideas on how to do it

just be patient and pay attention to details

I have done a build before but i wasn't sure if this particular motherboard had the correct connectors for a graphics card like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4KGTNI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
