Display Port and HDMI version question?

I noticed that some of the Display Ports on monitors come with 1.2 and HDMI come with 1.4 version.
However the Graphic boards use the latest versions Display Port 1.4 and HDMI 2.0.
This make no sense! You spend a lot of money for GPU's and monitors and are stuck with a monitor that can't take advantage of the latest connection capabilities of your GPU!

What in the heck is going on?

Solution
HDMI 2.0 basically adds 4096x2160 @ 60 Hz. If the monitor's resolution and refresh rate are are lower than that, it doesn't need HDMI 2.0 and is fine with HDMI 1.4.

Likewise, Displayport 1.2 has enough bandwidth to support up to 3840x2160 @ 75 Hz. If the monitor is less capable than that, it doesn't need DP 1.4 and is fine with DP 1.2.

The video card OTOH can be plugged into different monitors, even monitors which haven't been invented yet. So it needs to support the latest standard it can. (Unless you're Intel, in which case you can cripple your integrated GPU with HDMI 1.4 even though the 2.0 spec has been out for several years, because people are gonna buy your CPU anyway.)
