I'm a relatively new PC builder and after building two for my own personal use, I decided I am knowledgeable enough on the subject to start building PCs for friends who would otherwise spend their money on a prebuilt or a console. Here's a little backstory for those interested.
My first request was a budget built which went off without a hitch. However, the friend who commissioned this build was relatively knowledgeable on PC parts and simply just didn't want to go through the "hassle" of actually putting the parts together (It's not as hard as it looks, people! :pfff:).
Now, I got another request from a good friend of mine who just switched from the XBOne. Originally, he did some "research" in which he went on websites of prebuilt developers and just memorized the names of the parts. I found out about his antics and as a result decided to tell him I could build a PC for him at a much cheaper price. He complied, but was adamant about getting the best specs available. He demanded to have an i7 despite the fact that the PC is meant for gaming and gaming alone. He also told me to go "overkill" with the graphics card because he read on some shoddy website that your computer absolutely needs discrete graphics in order to do a task as simple as watching YouTube (May I mention that most of the games he plays will never utilize the full power of the GTX 1080s in SLI that he so ferociously defended). He didn't seem to care too much about the other parts, but he wanted the case to "look cool."
After reading that, I bet you think that my friend is a huge jerk or is misinformed about a lot of things/unwilling to fix his ignorance. However, he is actually a really cool dude and so I decided that I would make a build for him that would take actual effort to plan. I searched for about 2 weeks for the best price/performance specs I could find on PCPartPicker, and sifted through countless LinusTechTips videos in order to come up with this part list. I would like to hear a PC expert's opinion on where the parts list can improve and if I should add some incremental changes (i.e. a better-looking case for a reasonable price).
The PCPartPicker list is linked here. I can't wait for the tech gurus to tell me where it can improve, because all in all I just want to become better and smarter when it comes to building PCs and I think I may have stumbled on a website that can do just that for me.
Thanks in advance!
