So i was wondering if having a dead ram slot have an effect on the mobo? Since my symptoms is the random restart/shutdown..what is also peculiar is this event only happens when i have gpu planted.. i remove the gpu and just use the onboard gpu and everything is fine..

What i have done so far is change my psu, bought and test new ram, tested gpus.. all work fine

CPU: i7-3770
RAM: 8gb 1600
GPU: gt630 and gtx1050
PSU: 520w bronze 80+

yeah i just wanted to know if anyone experience the same thing as mine.. because i really find it weird just having a single dead ram slot.. domino to affect the pci-e? then again, if the pci-e was affected then there wouldnt be a video on the monitor... but there is video even when using either gt630 or gtx1050. before it even exhibits the mentioned symptoms

Freezes are generally memory related while random shutdowns/restarts(crashes) are generally power related.

yes that is what i also thought until i bought a new power supply and tested it, it still shows same symptoms.. had the psu checked since it is still under warranty but on their end its all good

why are there two gpus? gt 630 and gtx 1060... which motherboard are you using?
have you tested the ram in each slot?

oh yeah the gt630 was the old gpu and the gtx 1050 is the newer one. yes i tested in each slot and the one nearest to the cpu is the dead slot..

yes i have only a single stick of ram.

i use both gpu to test if maybe i have a gpu problem that causes the random restart/shutdown. well apparently not. both cards are fine when i put them inside another pc.

the stick of ram is also fine since i tried it with my friends lga1155 i3 computer

the psu i tested it yesterday when i went back in the store since it is still under warranty and the psu is good.

but when all are put together, the same issue still happens. so i removed the gpu and use the onboard video card and all is good but when i put gpu then the symptoms happen.. that is why i was wondering if there is a relation to the damaged ram slot to the malfunctioning of my mobo..

i recently bought a brand new mobo to see if it is mobo that needs to be replaced.. the worse case is the cpu

most motherboards have a ram population rule...meaning that they require you to populate some slots before others...
the rule becomes most apparent with single dimms...usually with Intel Sandy and Ivy Bridge cpus (series 2xxx and 3xxx) you have to put the single dimm in Slot A0 and A1 (second and fourth, counting from the cpu)

In my opinion, your mobo might be okay afterall. Do referthe manual for your motherboard for clarity. If you can tell me which mobo you have, I can look it up for you

Satyam

ga-b75m-hd3.. so if that is the case, if indeed my mobo is not at fault.. then who is or what is at fault? because individually, these parts run fine but together it just breaks down

Hmm then i really don't know what the issue is.. am using a new mobo and everything works fine..so if you guys say that my old mobo is fine and the old psu is fine.. how come i get the shutdown/restart issue when i put those together... something doesnt add up..

You have to remember that we can neither see nor touch your PC. All of our diagnosis is pretty much guesses, and prior experience. You say you got a new PSU. What make/model/wattage? Also, just because it is new doesn't mean that it works. I don't know about you, but I have read of plenty of new components that are DOA.

i suppose, you are right but nevertheless everything works now since mobo is new,ram is new and psu is new.. no issues
