i have a 4790k at 4.6 ghz, i switched the fan header from the fan that pulls from my radiator from the case headers to the cpu fan header and it made my temps higher on load, maybe i need to delid my cpu? or just get better cooling (custom water loop)

Specs - i7 4790k 4.6ghz, corsair h55 cooler, gtx 1060 oc 6gt oc'd - 2000~ mhz clock, corsair carbide spec alpha case, gigabyte z97 hd3, insignia 500w psu, 2 wd blue 1tb in raid0, 2 hyperx fury 1866 mhz.

thanks

Better cooling will be decided by op's case. Many smaller cases simply won't hold a 280mm rad like the h105 or my x61 which saw 74° under Prime95 v26.6 small fft on all 8 threads of my i7-3770K at 4.9GHz. Gaming saw @55°C. My h55 sees in the 50's gaming on a i5-3570k at 4.3GHz. Basically those temps are about right, the coolers appropriate for the OC levels. But I also have cases designed to fit those coolers. You won't see many mATX builds pushing a 280mm cooler. Most mATX cases will only handle a 240mm rad, some of which are only available for the front intakes. So maybe a h80i or h100i or h90 would be a better fit for op.

if u changed ur fans from a none pwm header to a pwm header it could be that the pwm is running ur fans at a lower speed.

pwm headers are 4 pins so if u plug ur fans into that u can use software to control there speed but a 3pin header will just run max.

You'll need to reset fan curves. Intel doesn't really care what the temps are on your cpu, as long as they are below 70°C. At 70° is when the fans will run max. In bios, lowering the curve to 60 or upping the performance level from standard to performance will change that. Honestly, the h55 wasn't made to run a 4790k at 4.6, @4.3 is top end unless you won the lottery and got a cpu running very low vcore voltage

H105 will do a much better job than the H55 and does not require software to operate it; thick rad and dual fan... I've got my 4790k @4.5; idles around 23-25* C and avg. gaming temp is 55*C (stressed) and the fans are not running max. Still using the stock fans too.

-top mounted, fans facing as intake to draw cool air across the rad (it does make a difference as I tried both ways)
-pump connected direct to the PSU
-fans connected to CPU header
-BIOS CPU fan setting set to "normal"

Just my input...

EDIT: My temps/readings, naturally cannot be duplicated in your system, just giving them as an example

i control the fan with speed fan so it runs faster than it used to

i was running it fine before i just now encountered this problem before i was running like 86 on intel burn test now i get up to 100 degrees until it thermal throttles

i will probably just get a custom water loop
