I have a lexmark x1240 printer that I have had for a long time and the encoder strip has clear parts/spots on it. Is this normal for the encoder strip?

Solution
Being on storage for so long - you might have troubles unclogging the print heads.
Then - this "encoder strip" - it is used to track head' position along the page. If it has spots (as you say, I don't have your printer to see it internal workings), then print head will be lost across the page, and most probably will trigger an error.

A solution: Recycle it properly (not in your trash bin). I don't think you can get spares for ten-years old printer which used to cost $100 at introduction.

No.It does not work properly. It also was in a storage for 8-9 years. I am now trying to get it to work. Any solutions?

Sometimes it will print out the whole page but it seems like the document or picture is sliding off to the left.If possible how do i post a picture on this thread? Also I cleaned the print heads so there are only one or two clogged. I really want to restore this printer into working order. I might take recycling it into consideration. Thanks
