Cheap USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 Portable Hard-drive

Solution
While I've worked with a couple of USB 3.1 (Gen 2) external enclosures each of which was equipped with a USB Type-A port, neither was equipped with a Thunderbolt port (although the PC contained a USB Type-C port as well as a Type-A port).

I have heard, however, that there's a fair amount of incompatibility problems arising with these Thunderbolt-Type C connectors although I've had no direct experience with them. You might take a look at http://blog.fosketts.net/2016/10/29/total-nightmare-usb-c-thunderbolt-3/ for a recent article on the subject.

Also, in case you haven't done so, do a Google search on the specific type of device in which you're interested.
You mention "USB-C" re an external HDD/SSD enclosure. Is this a typo or are you actually seeking such a device that's equipped with a Type-C USB connector (port)?

Or are you looking for a USB external enclosure that you could connect to a device that's equipped with a Type-C connector?

AFAIK, (although Phillip would probably have more definitive info re WD USB external drives) the WD line of their USB external drives are not equipped with a Type-C connector (port). However, they do list a cable (see https://www.wdc.com/products/accessories/usb-3_1-type-c-to-micro-b-cable-457mm.html) that has a Type-C connector at one end to connect to the recipient device. Note, however, that this a USB 3.1 Type-C (GEN 1) cable, so for all practical purposes it would be working at USB 3.0 speeds.
