I don't think my corsair h60 cooler is making good contact with my i7 6700k CPU. I also have a z170n gaming5 mobo. I tried using a pea sized amount of thermal paste but was getting high temperatures (around 90) so I checked, and the paste was only covering about 50% of the CPU.

I checked everything multiple times and don't know why I need to use more paste to cover the CPU, but that's the only way to keep temps down around 25 idle and 80 max load. Seems like something is causing the cooler to not make close contact. Halp!

If anyone finds this, the solution I found was that the cooler had to be rotated. Didn't seem like anything was in the way, but sure enough, it worked after that. The orientation that didn't work was with the hose side facing the fan headers.

I don't think that's the case. I've seen many people online with these two saying they work just fine. The backplate on the cooler is also adjustable. I'm not sure in what way they'd be incompatible.

I'm not sure how that article helps. I read it already, but it seems to mainly mention how similar an AIO cooler and air cooler are in performance. Doesn't mention anything about my issue.
