So my pc was shuting down while gaming. I lowered my max cpu state, and it stoped on SOME games. On the official website on my gpu it says i need 500w of power. But my firend that found the parts(he was decideing about the PSU)he sent me this website https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_5850/28.html which show how much the gpu spends power on idle,peak,max... But also one thing is that my gpu at idle is about 55 deggres,on some more graphicly intesive games(ex. Watch dogs or somerhing) its about 90 deggres. So my "theory" is that it dosent have enough power to cool it down effectivley tho on msi it says that the fan is normal.(ex. 25% on idle 60 on some games...) Please help me i dont know what to do!

A lack of power wouldn't cause a GPU to not be able to cool effectively. It's the fact that you GPU is simply overheating due to another issue and hits a thermal wall. So the pc shuts down for safety to prevent the gpu producing any more heat.

What GPU is it that you are running?

90c is very high and I'm not sure what thermal protection an older card like that will have. I'd start by trying to get the heat problem fixed. Start by cleaning out the GPU fans and heatsink with compressed air. If this doesn't work with an old card you may need to replace the thermal compound between the GPU and cooler as there is a good chance it has dried up and not doing its job properly.

That's quite an old card now. I would check a number of things on it. Make sure that

A the fan(s) are still working on it.
B that it is clean and dust free and not clogged
C That the thermal compound between the heatsink and that chip is still okay and hasn't dried out and began cracking up loads.

Pretty much what sizzling said above

I do want to get a new card so badly but i just dont have enough money for it.(i even got dis card from a firend that i mentioned in the question) So... Guess I just need to bare with dis old card until i can afford a new one...(Probably never lol) And when it dies, I at least have my phone,ps2 and my old psp...

Just as I said I did try it. And unfortunatley no results. I even put on some new thermal paste. Its just an old card that will break down soon. Ahhh man... Im so sad right now cuz i kno when it happens,I will be stuck with an old ps2 and my phone. And I dont know when i will be able to afford a new one.(trust me, i cant even afford a new 5850 XD) So yeah... My birthday will be this friday so I may get some money for the gpu,but it wont be nearly enough. So ima go cry in the coner now XD Just kidding :)
Well tnx 4 help n cya all! B.T.W. You got a nice rig there abaday789 XD

not much else I can think of off the top of my head then sorry buddy. Just surprising that the thermal issue wont go after that. Maybe you should look into doing your own version of scrapyard wars like linus tech tips and see what you can come up with lol :p

Thanks my only issue is i barely get any time to actually make use of it as i'm away from home during the week and got too much stuff to do on the weekends when I'm back. So in a certain light my rig is about as much use as your HD5850 haha

LOL. Such an old thread, but i have another question and a possible solution. Chould it be the motherboard gpu slot that is malfuncioning and no letting it cool efficiently or picking up wrong temps?
