Ok gang. I have a Samsung 256 gig 850 Pro. Many used for the OS. And I have a 1 TB WD Black HDD. That has my programs and games on it. I am finding that I am running out of room. Since now games can be 50 gigs and up to install. I want to replace the WD 1 tb with at least a 2 TB HDD. Is WD Black drives still good. Or is there any other recommendations? As well. How would clone the old drive to the new drive.

Thanks

Hey there, ern88.

I'd say that you can't go wrong if you decide to go with a WD Black drive for gaming and if you're current WD Black has served you well, at least you have your own experience to help you with your choice.
I don't know which model you have, but if you need reminder of what a WD Black drive has to offer, you can check it out here: WD Black HDD. It also comes with a 5-year warranty.

As for the cloning process, you can check those tutorials:
How to manually clone a disk with Acronis True Image WD Edition software
How to automatically clone a disk with Acronis True Image WD Edition software

Acronis True Image WD Edition is free to use, however you'd need to have at least one WD hard drive attached in...

I've found that WD drives have high failure rates. Your mileage may also vary since I've seen people with drives from Hitachi and Toshiba go under warranty soon into their service. On another note, the black series run hot which isn't a good thing for long term use, if you must go for WD stick with the Blue range of HDD's. Personally I use Toshiba's since they have been good to me. As a side note, always backup your critical data since warranty is on the drive not the data that's on the drive.

My 2 cents.

This is my current WD Black Model I have. WD1003FZEX. I had it for about 2 years now.

You should have no issue with the cloning software with any of the WD drive models. Basically you should be able to use the cloning software regardless of the other drive's brand, since you'd be cloning a WD drive. So what I'm saying is that you could go with whatever drive fits your budget and needs best, regardless of the brand. :)

The Seagate 2TB Barracuda is more of a competitor with a WD Blue 2TB. If you like the Black, and don't care about the slightly added cost or noise, then just go with another Black. It's still a good drive.
