Hi Gurus,

I am unable to use Samsung EVO 960 512GB PCI-E NVME SSD as Boot drive on my MSI Z87 GD65 MOBO ,
Earlier I successfully installed SAMSUNG 950 PRO PCI-E SSD on the same MOBO and was able to use it is primary OS boot drive. And it booted fine no issue.

Any help ???

Please dont create extra SPAM by lengthening this thread.
if u have no much knowledge ?? always u can skip..rather than spinning wheels
U only need MOBO model wich is MSI Z87 GD 65..

why do u need GPU 1070 , I7 4770k , 16GB RAM , psu 1050 , os win 10 (makes no sense right ? )

accessgamer,

With a bit of searching, I was unable to find conclusively that the Z87-GD65 GAMING motherboard has- or doesn't have- native support for NVMe. The Samsung 950 Pro is also NVMe, but the 950 Pro loads a special onboard NVME BIOS module and driver- a "legacy BIOS" that allows it to be installed on pre-NVMe motherboards.

I can't say for certain if this is the situation, but if so, there is a sequence by which the BIOS can be modified by integrating an NVMe module:

"Guide about how to get full NVMe support
(probably valid for all Intel 6-/7-/8-/9-Series Chipsets)
".

It's a bit of a fuss, and modifying the System BIOS or registery editing is not my favorite work, but the astoundingly good performance of the 960 Evo given the price makes it seem worth the trouble.

I came across this as I'd like to add a 960 Evo to an HP z420 workstation.

Cheers,

BambiBoom

Step A.
I cloned OS which is on SSD to Samsung 960 EVO.And then removed the SSD and rebooted only with 960 EVO.It wont boot takes to EFI shell and I get struck there.

Step B
I am trying to a fresh install of windows 10 using USB drive into 960 EVO.
Now I am able to see , choose which drive you want to install windows 10 and I was able to select 960 PRO.
After installing it says windows will reboot and it goes again into the "Clean Installation of Windows 10 in a Loop" (even removed USB at this phase - still same installation loop)

BIOS MODE IS CURRENTLY UEFI+LEGACY

there are still a lot of motherboard that do not support booting from nvm express.
that is the reason for this tutorial.
what you need is nvmexpressdxe.x64.efi and a build in EFI shell.

-choose for EFI shell.

-fs0:

-after entering dir you see this:

-load NVM.EFI (this is the driver but I changed the name)

-map -r (your mapping table wil be refreshed and new file systems will emerge. you are still on fs0: but this is not the same one.

-enter dir again and you will notice that you find yourself in the setup partition.

-after "cd efi", "cd boot" and "dir" you will see this:

-just enter that green file and setup will start.

als de computer reboot is het min of meer het zelfde alleen moet je voor de partitie met de EFI folder kiezen in mijn geval fs2:.
dit is ook de manier om windows op te starten.

here are some results:
