The other day I was playing CS:GO when the game randomly froze and my computer suddenly shut off. The power button began to flash on and off until I switched the PC off at the plug. Thinking it was just an overheating problem I left the computer for a while and tried to turn it on. Nothing happened. The PC does not turn on at all. I opened the case and there didn't seem to be any obvious problem such as a burning smell etc. however it's probably worth noting that inside the case was quite dusty.

I did a bit of research online and on the forums and the most frequent problem seemed to be the PSU. However the keyboard lights up when the PC is turned on at the plug suggesting to me that there is still power.

What action should I take next? Is replacing the PSU and taking it from there the best approach?

I was also told that resetting the CMOS might fix it. Is this a viable option and if so how does it work as I don't fully understand how it helps fix the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the PC is quite important for my college work.

Thanks.

Hi guys sorry for the late reply. Problem was not the PSU at all but the graphics card. Replace my GPU and everything working fine and continues to do so. Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem. Thanks for the replies!

Sorry that would of been helpful alright. Here they are:
EVGA 500B 500W 80+ BRONZE PC Power Supply
Sapphire R9 270X 4GB 1020MHz GDDR 5 PCI Express Graphics Card
AMD FX6300 Black Edition 6 Core CPU
MSI 970A-G43 AMD 970 ATX Motherboard
8GB RAM

Try other PSU, because you said "The power button began to flash on and off until I switched the PC off at the plug."

You may test the PSU with paper clip method: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=63991 because the EVGA 500B is not the topnotch PSU. The keyboard lights up when the PC is turned on that don't tell the PSU is still ok or not, because that only indicated the power can go through.

If the PSU has problem, and you need buy other PSU, recommend to read this: How to choose a PSU http://www.tomshardware.com/t/power-supplies/

One more thing, if you oc the fx6300, may try reset the CMOS by the jumper, that will fit the problem, but you will need to go back into the BIOS, reset the cpu, ram, boot device, etc setting.

My new PSU was delivered today (Corsair 650W). Replaced the old PSU with the new one and went to turn the PC on. The fans turned a tiny bit but theres still no power. Could I have installed it wrong or is there another problem.

***UPDATE***
Unplugged the graphics card from the psu and everything works fine, any ideas?
