Ok so I installed windows 10 on my new Samsung 960 evo SSD and installed a few drivers and google chrome. My 1TB HDD has all of my games and crap on it, Do I need to re-install steam? Is there a way I can transfer some files from the HDD onto the SSD?

Solution

Reinstall the Steam client on the new SSD.
Locate your SteamApps folder on the old drive.
Presumably this is inside "Program Files (x86)" ?

How large is the new SSD?
Is it large enough to hold the whole SteamApps folder?

I managed to figure out but I still have a few stupid questions - Does moving games from my HDD to SSD hinder performance of SSD since they were not originally installed there or does it not matter? I also made two steam libraries so I can cherry pick what games I want on the SSD - thank you for the help anyway.

No it does not hinder the SSD performance. Its a drive. That's what it is for.

Multiple Steam libs, on different drives, is no problem. That's what the functionality is for.
