no, connect the first four of the left, the other four can go in the air, left is determined by the lock and one of the pins with a squared shape

some connectors can be separate in to two 4 pins for the cpu

see if yours can do that, some mainboards will give you problems fitting the 8 complette into the 4pin connector in the mainboard but is doable on some models, thanks to no near components to the eatx 12v connector

Normally the 8 pin connector is actually 2 4 pin connectors plugged in together and you can just use 1 of them by itself. Also the add you linked lists a 4 pin ATX connector which I think is the one you want. I'd be very surprised if a modern PSU didn't work with a standard MB/CPU combo, kinda defeats the whole reason for it existing. I can't 100% guarantee anything but I think you'll be fine

Are there any downsides to this that would effect performance?

Thanks for your help! There would be 4 pins hanging to the side of it right?

the cable has 8 pins for those mainboard that do use 8 pins, the others use 4

it is not a performance impact, you are talking about volts, watts in consumption by the cpu

if by any chance, you can't fit the connector the way previously mentioned, this can help you

this one is very long, not menat for this, it is meant for other uses like short psu cables but it will do what you might need in the extreme case it comes attached as you mention, and the mainboard doesn't have clearance around that 4 pin connector

there is cheaper adapters with shorter cables, that one is just a example

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Requesterofhelp : "CPU connector trouble"

I need to get a 600 watt PSU and I thought I would get the http://amzn.to/2jWm2Sq and my motherboard the h110m gaming has 4 pins for the cpu but the PSU has 8 I was wondering if all 8 pins split into 4+4 because thats how everyone makes it seem but if you go to the cables section of the website(https://seasonic.com/product/s12ii-620/) it says " 4/8 pin pin attached" can these still be seperated for me to use them on my mobo or will I have to buy an adapter or get another PSU or is there a way I can use it?Thanks for all your help and please look at the seasonic website for the PSU because it is really confusing
