This green 1TB WD has been annoying since the day I bought it.
I'm using it as my main hdd (I'm poor)

the damn thing is making zzz zzz noises. it sounds exactly like the original fat PS3

is this noise only known for 3.5 drives ? because the 2.5 ones even the old ones doesn't make any annoying noises.
please help me guys

Solution
some times it`s not the the drive it`s self that produces the noise, it can be down to how it is mounted in the drive bay of the system case where if the drive is spinning at 5200 rpm or 7200 rpm rotation the vibration from this is transferred to the system case where the sound is amplified.

You try buying a dampening kit, that are basically just rubber grommets that fit between or or on the screws used to secure the HD to the drive bay and that may greatly reduce the vibration or humming noise while the drive is in operation Drbadoor.

Or just buy some rubber washers...
Hi htere Drbadoor,

That is really unpleasant. :(

It would be nice to back up the data stored on the drive, until you sort this out.

Once you do that, you can run both short and extended DLG tests on the drive. This should show you the overall health status of the drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=bgMfZP

Also, you can attach the drive to a different SATA port with both different SATA and power cables.

Is the drive under warranty?

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

Or just buy some rubber washers from a pluming shop to fit between the drive and the bay on where it touches the inside points of the bay.
