Major difference between the Pentium G4620 and i3-6100?

The i3 have a few instruciton sets that the pentium does not (AVX, AVX2, F16C and FMA3) but these will in no way effect gaming performance.

The pentium has the same clock speed and cache but has better integrated graphics (not usefull for gamign because you will need dedicated GPU) and has direct support for ddr-2400.

Thus the pentium comes out on top for being cheaper and directly supporting 2400mhz memory

The only thing to note is that you will need a 2xx serries motherboard to support it out of the box (otherwise you would need a skylake cpu as well to update the bios on a 1xx serries board).

theyre going to be nearly identical in gaming and otherwise. they have the same exact specs on basically the same architecture. now that the pentium is out and significantly cheaper, the i3-6100 shouldnt even be considered

Good question.
Both have hyperthreads and are clocked at 3.7.
Both have about the same IPC.

G4620 will have a stronger HD630 integrated graphics vs. HD530
Likely, that is irrelevant since I would expect a gamer to use a dedicated graphics card.

list price of G4620 is cheaper.
