When my computer turns on the keyboard lights up to show that it has power; the mouse doesn't. However when I try to enter the bios using the delete key it won't work. It then goes to the windows login screen and the keyboard won't type and the mouse won't light up or work. I have reset the bios by removing the cmos battery and putting it back in. When I do this a screen comes up asking me to hit f1 or f2, but the keyboard still won't work. The keyboard I am using is the corsair strafe and I have also tried the corsair k40 rgb which doesn't get power at all. I have tried all USB ports and non of them have worked. I reset the Bios as I had changed a setting in the USB options and this is when my keyboard stopped working.

Solution
Yes. Try the PS/2 keyboard if you have one or can borrow one.

A USB to PS/2 adapter could be used to allow you to try using your existing USB keyboard(s) as well.

Do you remember what USB option/setting you changed? What was your intention when you made the change?

Probably will be helpful if you post the make and model of your motherboard. And the installed OS.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

How old is the CMOS battery? A failing battery could be part of the problem.

The mother board is a msi h61m - p31/w8 and I only bought it around two weeks ago. I'm running windows 10 pro 64 bit and I can't get into safe mode as the keyboard won't actually log and keys pressed. I changed the legacy USB settings and the USB controller settings and I didn't intend to turn them off. I managed to get rid of the login screen with a different motherboard and cpu and it works on these. It's just with my newer motherboard that it won't work, someone has suggested that I get a ps2 keyboard as I changed the legacy settings and this will allow me to get into the bios.
