Upgrading RAM, Which One To Buy?

Hey all, I am upgrading a buddy's ram on his pre-built ASUS PC. Right now he has 1 stick of 8gb that came with the PC and has room for one more.

There is no guarantee it will work unless they are from the same kit, and you generally end up spending more money buying the specific model you need in these scenarios anyway.
You're much better off buying a fresh 8GB kit.

So you are saying that even if I put in another stick that is the exact same model it may not work?
