After having no luck getting a reply from Microsoft or their forums I thought I'd try and get an answer on trusty Toms.

Sunday night my son was watching Netflix on his Xbone (original model, not One-S) when his console suddenly switched off with what he described as a loud crack and a flash.

We've tried the power brick in a different socket and it made no difference so we know it's the root of the problem.

My question is though, with the brick having a surge protector, is there still a chance it has fried the console too? We can't test it with a different brick as everyone else I know has a One-S.
Was going to order a new brick from MS tomorrow but having doubts whether its worth it without knowing if the actual console is alive and kicking :/

Thanks for any replies in advance

it is not impossible, it depends on what problem happened, there could be a fuse in there and died so replace it could revive it

also, could be that the psu had a major failure and died alone

as a bad looser, if it won't go down alone, it could have killed the mainboard and the hard disk

being a xbox, well, sadly, all is possible

i bough one xbox 360 but had six, that bad is their consoles and their warranty, i was fun to see each console die each 4 or 5 months

before buying another power brick/psu, well, try to find one borrowed just to test

perhaps on a game store they could help you, test it there, if it works, buy the psu there, if not, well, ps4 is a great console, not made by microsoft
