Can anyone please tell me what the difference would be between the Dell OEM version of an Nvidia graphics accelerator like the K40M vs a "generic" version?

The Dell version is 490-BBSR, selling new for $7800: http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=corp&sku=490-BBSR

A card with what seems to be identical specs is available with model number 900-22081-0040-000 from various sources, new, for about $2800-2900.

Is there any reason I would want to get the Dell OEM version instead of the "generic" version? It would be used in a Dell server, if that makes a difference.

Thank you!

There should be no difference, except that if you buy something not from Dell for a server or a high end system like a workstation, you won't get support from them for the system if you they find out you have a non-Dell purchased part. My first job I worked on SUN and HP Unix stations, and the prices for the hardware like RAM and hard-drives were more than double what you would pay on your own.
