Hi there wimpie1,

See if you can take ownership of the drive first and grant permissions afterwards: http://preyerplanning.com/take-ownership-of-entire-hard-drive-in-windows-7.pdf

If the chkdsk feature doesn't help, then you can:
- Either use some data recovery tool to retrieve the data, if it is important.
- Go to Disk Management and re partition and reformat the drive.

Once you do any of those, you can check the drive's health status out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Hello... OK... "New to OS"...it's an OS security thing... Windows has "security" and you have to give permission to the OS as "administrator" to use/install additional Devices.

1) Right click Computer-Manage-storage-Disk Management... 2) Right click the graphics below for the NEW drive... (*complete partitioning and formatting for the drive if needed)... 3) And "Mark Partition as Active"

* If the Drive already has DATA on it.... Just mark the "Partition active" So you don't lose any of it B )
