If the chkdsk feature doesn't help, then you can:
- Either use some data recovery tool to retrieve the data, if it is important.
- Go to Disk Management and re partition and reformat the drive.
Hello... When do you get the "access denied" message in the above procedure?
1) What OS?
2) Try logging in as "administrator" at boot.
3) How are you connected to the Drive?
4) Was this working before... or a "New" connection to your OS?
Start: All Programs: Accessories: Right click on Command Prompt, "run as administrator"...
at the prompt type:
chkdsk (Your problem drive letter here no parentheses): /x
hit enter.
wait.

Hello... OK... "New to OS"...it's an OS security thing... Windows has "security" and you have to give permission to the OS as "administrator" to use/install additional Devices.
1) Right click Computer-Manage-storage-Disk Management... 2) Right click the graphics below for the NEW drive... (*complete partitioning and formatting for the drive if needed)... 3) And "Mark Partition as Active"
* If the Drive already has DATA on it.... Just mark the "Partition active" So you don't lose any of it B )
