I just ordered a GTX 980 HOF v1. However I might have a problem with power requirements.

Here's the thing. My power supply is a multi rail with 18A rails. I heard the GTX HOF 980 needs 42 AMPS. So mine can only provide 36 in total (18A x2).

I also heard the 390x however requires 50A. I am currently running a 390x and its working fine. So surely it should be fine with a 980. Unless somehow a 980 needs more Amps????

So now im just worried the 980 might not work. Doubt it as it uses way less power than a 390x.

18A x2 rails x12V = 432 watt. The 980 only uses 300 max right? However Im worried about the 18A rail thing.

I have a 900 watt huntkey x7 and not worried about power. The Amps requirement is what im worried about.

Solution
I thought the HOF was closer to 325 but that still too close for comfort since two rail PSU's usually have 1 rail for the motherbd/cpu and the remaining rail for everything else
