i have a Lenovo K450E that i got my wife for school, its current specs are
-Intel I5 4460 3.2GHz
-64 bit quad core processor
-Geforce GT 720
-8GB DDR3 1600
-1TB + 8GB SSHD
-280w power supply
ive never really messed with building a computer and dont know to much about the actually parts and what is compadable with what. my question is what can i upgrade as far as GPU, memory, power supply, or anything else to get this PC to where it can handle high setting and good FPS? or would i be better off just building a full PC from scratch? im trying not to spend a ton and i figured upgrading this PC would be cheaper than building.. thanks for any input.

Solution
You donwload the BIOS from the lenovo webpage for your computer (if there is even an upgrade version, OEMs are slow to make any updates)
Then follow whatever instructions you can get from lenovo on it
The CPU is good enough, so does the RAM, you need to upgrade the GPU and Power supply unit.

At most you'll need to upgrade your mobo's BIOS to recognize the latest GPUs out there, so I suggest you to do that now using your current GT 720 video card.

As for which GPU to buy, it will really depend on your budget, but aim at least for a Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti or an AMD RX 460.

Upgrading your PSU is a must, again your budget will determine which to get, I suggest a Seasonic M12II 620w or a XFX TS 550w.

Main thing needed to turn that into gaming PC, is graphics card.
Second - to support such upgrade also PSU needs to be changed.
And last - increase ram to 16GB (8GB for gaming is not enough already)
and add SSD for OS (any modern PC is not imaginable without it) to the system.

Actual models depend on, how much money you're willing to spend.
Here - some guides:

The last brick wall you will likely run into is the case.

Normal OEM cases lack the airflow needed for gaming, and are usually not deep enough to fit high end GPUs.

If you are wanting to get something like a 1050ti or similar then you should be fine with just a PSU and GPU update
As soon as you want mroe then that you should plan on swaping all the parts ot a new case.
At that point it may bennifit you as well to go to 16gb of memory instead of 8.

SSD has nothing to do with gaming, it is just a very big way to upgrade the "snapiness" of your computer.

what about getting a "ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Video Card"
and "CORSAIR CS-M Series CS850M 850W 80 PLUS GOLD Active PFC Haswell Ready ATX12V & EPS12V Modular Power Supply"
I want to get the most out of the PC without having to upgrade MOBO or CPU but also dont want to buy a GPU that the rest of the PC bottlenecks..
