Got a new CPU and now I can't use my GPU

Put in my new CPU (specs below) and after this I can't use any DVI slots on my GPU (using the ones on the motherboard.) GPU-Z realises my GPU is there but won't give me any details about it and installing new drivers etc hasn't worked. Nvidia control panel won't open. I've also tried reseating the GPU to a different PCI-e slot and then I get no DVI input from the motherboard or the GPU

Things I've tried:
-Prioritising PCI-e GPU in BIOS
-Disabling IGPU multi monitor
-Reset CMOS battery
-Reseating GPU
-Reseating RAM

Specs
Windows 7
i7 4790k (previously i5 4670k)
16GB RAM
MSI GTX 970
Asrock Z97 Fatality
No other PCI/PCI-e peripherals, use on-board lan
Using two monitors if that is relevant at all

Solution
Have you checked for compatability issues between the MB and the new CPU?? Even though the CPU "fits" the socket, the MB may have an issue with the CPU parameters.----------In which case, you'll have to replace the MB. Something that many forget is that MB's are optimized for use with a specific range of CPU's------if your new one is outside of the recognized range, it "may" seem to work---but create some "unique" issues in other areas of the MB.

I have the corsair cx500, which obviously isn't great but it worked fine with the i5 which only has 4w less tdp than the i7. I'll try what you said about the DDU now

Estimable

if the fans of the GPU spins then its probably not the PSU...
As they said previously you can try to DDU... Appart from that... I know this sounds stupid but if the DDU dosent actually work, try removing the GTX 970, clean the PCI-E slot and place it back again..

Just did the DDU and it didn't work unfortunately
I doubt it'll be dirt in the PCI-E slot because I've used it in this same slot for a while with no problems at all, the issue has only come about after I installed the i7 which leads me to believe its a conflict with the on-board graphics and GPU but I can't find any settings that might be doing it in the BIOS. I know the CPU itself works fine as I'm using it right now and the GPU works fine as of yesterday when I installed the new CPU. I'll try cleaning out the PCI-E slot now but I'm fairly sure it's not a hardware issue (which I guess is good) but I'm not 100% sure on how to fix it. I can use the actual PC itself fine by using the motherboard DVI slot but I just can't use anything that requires a GPU. I think I described it quite poorly in the post

Never used intel (well, not never, since the Pentium D era) but i will throw my 2 cents here hoping that it helps you. Maybe the iGPU from the i7 must be deactivated in order to use the GPU? There should be some options in the bios to "turn off" the integrated graphics. Again, I am guessing, so don't blame me for trying :p
Good luck man.

I'll try updating the BIOS in a minute, I'm fairly certain there are no bent pins as I checked when I put in the new CPU.

I'm not sure if this is of any value, but when I have the GPU in my 2nd PCI slot (where it normally is) or unplugged, my PC boots up, but when it's in slot 1, it doesn't at all and I get no display regardless of where I plug the DVI cable

E: Just reinstalled the BIOS, still nothing from the GPU

For some reason in ASRock motherboards I don't think there's an option to disable the iGPU - in the BIOS it only lets you select which is the primary graphics adapter, which I selected to PCI-e

You can disable the iGPU, check the manual page 79, in the IGPU Multi-Monitor section.
Also you said you had the problem when the 970 is in the 1st pice slot, but PC will work fine when the gtx970 is in the 2nd pcie slot, that means the MB ( pcie slot) has problem. If the MB is still under warranty, contact asrock, otherwise use the gtx970 in the 2nd pcie slot, but the gpu runs at X4 speed. Or buy the new MB, sorry.

It is disabled in igpu multi-monitor, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on if that's the case. I'll look into it some more and go through the BIOS again. Even if I have the monitor in the 2nd pci-e slot, I still have the issue of no input to the monitor/GPU not being recognised, it's just that the computer doesn't even boot in slot 1 (even though it boots fine without the GPU)

e: Double checked, the IGPU Multi-Monitor was definitely disabled

So try put back the i5 to see the whole PC works fine or not.
1) If the PC works fine with the i5, the means the i7 has something wrong. RMA it.
2) If the PC has same problem even you put back the i5, and try other GPU if you have one. Otherwise it is very strange.

I'll try this tomorrow as it's a bit late here and I have the day off tomorrow, so I'll reply here if it worked. Thanks for the help so far

It works with the 660 and the i5 in, so it may be a GPU problem. I don't know what could have caused it though, because the 970 was working fine right up until I put in the i7.

e: Nevermind, whilst it will now use DVI input from the 660 I can't update drivers or anything

It has the same problem with both the old CPU and GPU. On the weekend I'm going to try using a different motherboard and see if that's the issue, because I've run out of things to test at this point and it's the only thing I haven't tried yet.

I'll give this a go now.

I've installed it on the new motherboard, which is an MSI Z97 gaming 3, and I have the same issue of no output from the GPU. However, it is now realising that the iGPU exists which is a change, and the display manager says the 970 has a code 43 issue, which from what I can gather is just the generic error code.

My guess as of now is that your system (Windows) has gone bananas because of the hardware changes and must be reinstalled. If I were you I'd take a leap and install W10, as it is more compatible and most likely to behave better as new updates and drivers become more w10 oriented/optimized.
