I have gtx 960 4gb from GIGABYTE this one already came OC but i want to overclock it further. by simply using the program provided by them which is the OC GURU i have chose the OC version which increases from the 1241/1304 i was wondering if i could go further since this is my first time overclocking. as such i have read that i have can boost up my mhz from 7010 to 7710 and was also wondering if this is safe whilst also boosting the target power from 100 to 130%

Solution
I have the 2GB 960 from Gigabyte and just finished OC'ing it last week.

This is what I recommend for OC’ing the GPU.

Install GPU-Z to monitor settings, temps, etc.
Install 3DMark (I use Firestrike) to Benchmark the GPU

Run the benchmark while stock and note all scores...

I have the 2GB 960 from Gigabyte and just finished OC'ing it last week.

This is what I recommend for OC’ing the GPU.

Install GPU-Z to monitor settings, temps, etc.
Install 3DMark (I use Firestrike) to Benchmark the GPU

Run the benchmark while stock and note all scores and FPS
.
Boost Power to max (I could set mine to 108%)

Now, while running the benchmark in native resolution, increase your memory freq in 5-10MHz increments until you see artifacts (large blocks of solid colors or bright stars) then drop back until these artifacts disappear. Note this stable Mem Freq, then return to DEFAULT.

Next, increase GPU freq in 5-10MHz increments until you see artifacts (random, multi colored pixel sized dots or colored flashed) then drop back until these artifacts disappear. Note this stable GPU Freq.

Now set your Memory Freq and GPU Freq to the values established above. You may have to drop one (or both) of them down depending on the type of artifact you observe (see above types of artifacts). Drop as necessary to be stable.

Once you are stable re-run the benchmark to see your improvements. :)

I don’t have the specific values I was able to obtain in front of me, but I know I was able to bring memory up 1030MHz and I think I raised the GPU freq by 130Mhz over the "Gaming" OC it came with.
