What I really need to know is if any of the parts I chose are really unnecessary or should be changed to something else.
Also for about how long do you think this would last (modern games) while still being really strong max settings.

Solution
Most builds with Kaby lake will use a Z270 mobo.
Most builds with a Z170 will use Skylake.

There is very little difference between the two, but if you're going to go Kabylake - get a Z270 mobo.
If you like that specific z170 mobo, you might as well use a Skylake processor.

At 1440p, 144hz.... you're going to have to turn some settings down from day one. A GTX 1070 is a hell of a card, but even a GTX 1080 struggles... well really it can't even push 144hz at 1440p in modern games with max settings.

1440p 144hz is high end gaming status, and would be best paired with a GTX 1080, Pascal, or GTX 1080s in SLI.

Probably will not work as the bios for the 100 series needs update to support kaby lake 7000 series cpu's. Get a Z270 instead. I would also suggest a bit better cooler. The M9i or the H7 is what I would suggest.

The 144hz is more for competitive games like csgo/overwatch, I can deal with lower settings or anything as long as its 72fps+ in other games. If I just use a i5 6600k should I be good?
