So...I simply try to install an M.2 SSD in my M6 order thee exact duplicate Hp would use, after it arrives I discover it has no M.2 adaptor in it, it has the slot but no adaptor, So I order a 1 tb evo 850 and while im in there I pull the motherboard to jack up the memory from 8 to 16 after cloning the origina HDD( i think where the prob lies) I install everything make a video on how to take out the motherbard etc. trun it on and ............ Nothing it doesnt boot no xcreen NADA the fan turns on and off a bit, but nothing, SO. I pull the SSD and re install the original and still nothing. I think I may have fouled up cloning the HDD i did it thru my M7 hp so to not have to reinstall the HDD. any thoughts?? Im dead in the water here.

Hi RichiefromBoston,

So, the PC is not booting and you only get response from the cooling fans, right? You are absolutely right: sometimes cloning may cause some booting issues, but I would say that this may not be a hard drive related issue. In fact, I believe the PC should start and load BIOS screen with no hard drive connected to the motherboard.

There may be a connectivity issue or a problem with another hardware component. Please make sure all hardware is properly connected. Any chance to connect back the old RAM memory? If you get no signal on screen, remove the power cable and battery and hold the power button for 20 seconds. Reconnect the cable and try to boot again.

Hope this helps

You should be able to format the hard drive using another PC, but I still believe that this issue is not hard drive related. It seems that even if you press the power button, the PC remains as if not turned on (except for the cooling fan noises), right?
Sadly, while changing the RAM and the hard drive, you may have connected something wrongly or damaged some port or connector. I would bring the PC to a technician and ask for assistance.
