Doh!

I had motherboard fail, so i replaced it. It first time boot, everything appears to be fine. about 10 - 15 minutes in to playing with the computer, it just shuts off. I then realize I left the heat sink and fan off of the i5 processor. You could cook an egg on it!

Ever since then I havent been able to get the PC to boot. I bougt a new power supply, but it won't boot even with all peripherals off.

Did I totally fry my CPU?
How can I test this?
Should I just buy a new PC at this point?

Solution
If you check the motherboards support list (usually you can google the model number and look there) and pick a processor on the list you should be fine.

If I wanted to get an i7 instead of an i5, is there anything I should consider? The computer is a PowerSpec B633 and the replaced motherboard is a Gigabyte Classic with an Intel H61 chipset.
