Worth waiting Vega/1080ti for UWQHD ?

I am getting Asus PG348Q or Acer Predator X34, with UWQHD (3440x1440) wide version of 1440p. Looking at the performance at this resolution even gtx 1080 cant get stable 60fps, and new games will probably be more demanding in next couple of years.

So is it worth waiting for Vega or new 1080ti, or just go with normal 1080.

Thank you

Solution
If you are paying the premium for a G Sync monitor I would't pair with an AMD gpu and lose the functionality. If/when the 1080ti is released it will be a great match for that monitor but in my experience I haven't felt that the 1080 is terribly under powered at that resolution.
Well, if you're planning to "future-proof" (to a certain extent) for several years, I would probably wait to see what Vega or the GTX 1080 Ti gives. If you're not going for up to a five year graphic supply (maybe two or two and a half years), I would probably just go with a GTX 1080 or GTX 1070.

I still use the GTX 970 for my gaming PC and it runs all my needs at a smooth 60 FPS.

At that resolution, the GTX 1080 will be overpowered - NVIDIA purposely designed the GTX 1070 to take the role as the 1440p Gaming role.
Like I said earlier, the GTX 1080 is a good card for the next couple years - it still peforms really well at 4K. Of course, if you're really looking for future-proof, you could wait for the GTX 1080 Ti or the Vega cards.

I agree 1080ti will be great match for wide 1440p. Now, while i wait, since i have old 660ti, would it be bearable to get one more 660ti for SLI (for like 50-60$) on that monitor, untill 1080ti came up. I belive 660ti SLI with medium settings can push everything on some 30 fps, it should be equivalent to single 970, i am just worried about 2gb ram it have, will 2GB of ram be to terrible, unplayable on this resolution?

Yes, there will be performance suffered from only being equipped with 2GB of VRAM on that card. If you didn't notice before, though, the GTX 1070 is by far a very good match for 1440p - getting the 1080 Ti for only 1440p is overkill.

If you are sold on buying a GTX 1080 Ti for 1440p - which personally, is ridiculous, and will last well into the future of gaming on that monitor - then I think it would be a fine idea to get an extra 660 Ti in SLI.

Ok im getting a bit lost here, you say 1070 is enough and 1080 is overkill for 1440p gaming. But if you look at gtx 1080 benchmark for this resolution, it does not really shine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9swLIUDgYs

Witcher 3 is dropping under 40 fps, and Crysis under 50 fps, this video mostly made me very uncomfortable with 1080 gtx. Can you elaborate your "overkill" comment please, and just want to mention that reducing quality to medium for this price range is not a option.

Oh, I am sorry, the reason the GTX 1080 is struggling is because that screen is an Ultrawide screen, which I failed to take into account. Under these circumstances, then yes, a GTX 1080 would just barely cover those needs.

In this situation, the load would come closer to a 4K gaming needs, therefore, as krells has been saying, needing a GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti.

If this is the case, however, the Vega cards have shown exceptional promise, and might be worth saving for (and buying a different monitor for). Of course, it comes down to whether you really want that G-sync tech to help smoothen up the game frame rates.

We are talking about wide 1440p not 4k.

Let me reiterate that. You'll need 6 Titans, minimal.

I think the 660ti sli would be pretty bad honestly. I think you would be surprised at how well the gtx 1080 plays at 3440x1440p. I was fully prepared to get a second card for sli if performance wasn't good when I got my pg348q five months ago and I still am happy with the performance of a single card. I also get that if you buy the 1080 and next month out of nowhere the release the 1080ti at 1080 pricing you would have some buyers remorse. Have you looked at EVGA to see if any of their 1080's will qualify for the step program if a 1080ti is released? That would give you 90 days of security. It would also let you see were the 1080ti would fall in pricing line up.

why do people think the 1080 is overkill for ultra wide 1440p? theres multiple games that the 1080 probably cant max out or is close to 60fps on, and over a short period of time as games get more demanding its just going to be lower and lower with the framerate, same thing was said about the gtx 980

@krells can agree with everything you said, good suggestion with EVGA "step program" but i dont have official distributor in my country, only Gigabyte asus and msi. Its hard to wait now for ti, i understand Nvidia wont release Ti, until Vega comes out, since they dont have reason too. 1080 is still selling good and its strongest gfx for its price, so why would they. Untill Vega try to take position out of 1080, they wont release 1080 ti.
