Wireless headset interference

Hey there,

I have a pair of Logitech G930 wireless headset and recently I experienced some interference issues. The headset turns of itself and turns on again after a few seconds.

The only thing that comes to my mind is that a few days ago I purchased a Router Linksys AC1900 EA7500 (previously I was using the WiFi modem provided by my internet provider).
Now I have two networks, the regular one 2.4 GHz and a new one 5 GHz. Just wondering if by any change the router can cause interference of some kind.

I contacted technical support but since the warranty has expired they won't "help me".

Thanks!

Solution

Ok well if OP is on channel 1 and switches to channel 9 that is an impact (although going to channel 6 or 11 would be just as good).
If OP is on channel 11 already then he is in fact using channel 11 and channel 9 already since N300 and newer bonds multiple frequency bands. Thus changing to channel 9 could have little to no impact.

Now if the OP does not need to support 2.4ghz devices at all then turning this radio off would be the most ideal situation.
The G930 uses 2.4 ghz band. When you changed routers it either is using a different wifi channel on the 2.4ghz band that is now interferring with your headset, or could just be that your router's signal is now stronger.

Try going into router's configuration settings and changing which wifi channel it is (changing it 1 channel wont do much, need to change it by 5 channels).

Thanks a lot for your help and time guys!

I have some devices that don't support 5Ghz network so I need the 2.4GHz active.

This is how it looks my router settings: http://imgur.com/a/m64Se
2.4GHz channel is set to automatic [strike]and I'm not sure how to find out which channel I'm using[/strike] so I downloaded an app in Android called "WiFi Analizer" that shows the following:
- My 2.4GHz network called "PSft" is using channel 11 with "BELKIN INTERNATIONAL" (I think that's the Linksys router) and channel 6 with "GEMTEK TECHNOLOGY" (don't know what that is but maybe is the modem WiFi from my internet provider).
- My 5GHz network is using channel 36.
- My WiFi extender (is quite far from my room) using channel 6.
- Besides from that, there's a few networks around here using channel 6 (1 network) and channel 1 (2 networks).

[strike]What would you recommend me to do? Set channel 11 and test if it works and then change it to 1 if it doesn't?[/strike]
I've changed mine (the 2.4GHz one) to channel 1 and so far the headset is working fine (this was 2 mins ago though).

What negative impact can cause changing channels and not leaving it in automatic?

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the signal is in fact stronger since the previous "router" had a shitty signal. I'm planning to move the new router to another room (far from the headset) anyway but it seems that changing to channel 1 did the trick.

Hey again!

Issue's back :(

What should I do ?

/edit: I changed to channel 6. The width thing has two options: auto and "20MHz only". I'm starting to think the headsets has something wrong because they were just fine after I changed to channel 1 and yesterday they started to work bad again. This is weird.

Why would that help with the headset interference? I changed to channel 1 at first and that worked fine. I was using 12 I believe and that bring some trouble with my headset. I'm in 6 now and it is better but still I have some interference once in a while.

I already did that but anyway channels I should "pick" are 1, 6 or 11, right? I already tried the 3 of them. The only way to completely to avoid interference is to deactivate my 2.4GHz wireless network FROM THE LINKSYS ROUTER and just left the 2.4GHz from the modem-router (provided by ISP). That way interference disappear 100%.

yeah well but I don't want to disable the router network because I bought it to work lol
